Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ECS Gold Card for Network Installers?

The ECS Gold Card is the industry's highest certification for network cable installers. It proves competency in both copper and fibre structured cabling installation, commissioning, and maintenance. The card is recognised across the UK construction and telecommunications industries.

How do I get an ECS Gold Card?

There are two routes: 1) Complete a Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship (12 months, ideal for new entrants), or 2) Pass an Experienced Worker Assessment (1 day, ideal for those with 5+ years experience). Both routes lead to ECS Gold Card eligibility.

Do I need both copper and fibre certification for the Gold Card?

Yes, the full ECS Gold Card requires competency in both copper AND fibre installation. If you only certify in one pathway, you'll receive a Level 3 ECS card for that specific discipline.

How long is the ECS Gold Card valid?

ECS Gold Cards are valid for 5 years. However, the underlying qualification you achieve (through apprenticeship or EWA) is yours for life with no renewals required.

Which route is faster - Apprenticeship or EWA?

The Experienced Worker Assessment is much faster - you can be certified in a single day if you have 5+ years of experience. The Apprenticeship takes 12-18 months but is fully funded and ideal for those new to the industry.
