Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Experienced Worker Assessment?

The Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) is a one-day practical assessment that allows experienced data cabling professionals to demonstrate their competency and qualify for the ECS Gold Card without completing a full training course. It's designed for installers with 5+ years of hands-on experience.

How long does the Experienced Worker Assessment take?

The Copper pathway takes up to 2 hours, Fibre pathway up to 5 hours, and the Combined Copper & Fibre pathway up to 7 hours. All assessments are completed in a single day at our Harrogate centre.

What happens if I don't pass the EWA?

If you don't pass on your first attempt, you can rebook for a resit. Our assessors will provide feedback on areas for improvement. With 5+ years of experience, most candidates pass first time - our pass rate is over 98%.

Do I need to bring my own tools and equipment?

No. All tools, equipment, and materials are provided as part of your assessment fee. Just bring yourself, your ID, and your enthusiasm.

How quickly will I receive my ECS Gold Card after passing?

You'll receive your qualification certificate within 24 hours of passing. You can then apply directly to ECS for your Gold Card, which typically arrives within 2-3 weeks.

Is the Experienced Worker Assessment the same as a course?

No - the EWA is an assessment only, not a training course. It tests the skills and knowledge you already have from your years of experience. If you need training first, consider our apprenticeship programme instead.

Ready to Get Your ECS Gold Card?

Don't wait months for a course. Prove your skills in one day and walk away with your qualification.
